Duplex Stainless Steel
Duplex stainless steels are alloys that have sufficient inclusions of austenite-stabilizing elements - carbon, copper, nickel, manganese, and nitrogen - and ferrite-stabilizing elements - chromium, silicon, molybdenum, tungsten, titanium & niobium to create a series of alloys that combine the excellent corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steels with the high strength of ferritic stainless steels.
Duplex stainless steels offer excellent corrosion resistance to a range of media including seawater, brackish water, chlorides, sulfides, and other halides, with pitting and crevice corrosion resistance their forte. Their tensile strength is generally double that of austenitic stainless steels, whilst offering good weldability, ductility, formability, and machinability in the appropriate grade. Further, their low-temperature toughness is also a noteworthy characteristic.
These alloys are used across a broad range of industries, where their unique characteristics are best suited. These include oil & gas, paper & pulp production, power generation, pressure vessels, chemical processing, desalination & water treatment, pump & valve components, and marine & offshore applications.
Integ Metals supplies 8 different grades of duplex stainless steel in total, so please read below for more information on characteristics and available shapes, or speak to our expert sales team directly.
