Carbon Steel

Carbon steels, with small amounts of alloying elements such as lead, sulfur, and bismuth, are known as engineering steels or free-cutting steels. These grades have been specifically designed to exhibit good machining properties by forming small chips, extending tool life, or a combination of both.

Depending on the composition, these materials can increase their machinability in line with an increase in their alloying elements. However, this can be to the detriment of the existing mechanical properties of low-carbon steels by increasing the brittleness and reducing ductility. To counter this, many grades can be heat-treated to improve their properties via annealing, nitriding, carburising, and through-hardening.

These steel grades are used to create precision-machined parts for the automobile and aerospace industries, as well as for general engineering purposes.

Integ Metals supplies all of the grades below in the displayed shapes, so please feel free to contact our expert team directly for further information or to place an order.
