CP & LA Nickel

Commercially Pure and Low Alloy Nickel Alloys contain at least 93% Nickel by weight, with trace amounts of either each or all of the following Copper, Iron, Manganese, Carbon, Silicon, Sulfur, Magnesium, Aluminium, and Titanium making up the balance.

Even in its purest form, Nickel has a passive Nickel Oxide film, which is very effective at resisting a broad range of corrosive media including: seawater, alkalis, chlorine, hydrogen fluoride and molten, alkali, and molten salts. Alloy 201 is probably the most oft used CP Nickel Alloy, retaining the same excellent corrosion resistance as the base CP Alloy, 200, but with a lower Carbon content lending it easier cold formability and less graphite precipitation above 315℃. Alloy 301 extends the possibilities of Low Alloy Nickels yet further, with the addition of Aluminium and Titanium providing strengthening and hardness properties, also.

These alloys are generally straightforward to weld via GMAW and GTAW welding practices and are machinable once they have been work hardened, to remove their "gummy" machining nature.

CPLA Alloys are used extensively in the marine and chemical processing industries, as well as cathodes for batteries, electrical buses, and in food service.
